A First Aid Kit For Every Adventure - Hunting

Hunting is a great way to get outside, appreciate nature, and get some dinner while you’re at it, but it also comes with its fair share of risks. Accidents happen, and someday, it may happen to you. Injuries from faulty equipment, falling from a tree stand, accidental discharges, sprains, and more are only a few of the things that could happen while you’re tracking your prize. That’s why it’s critical to have a first aid kit with you at all times. Out of all our kits, the following are what our very own Billy Haley recommends for your next hunt.

Billy is My Medic’s director of education, an expert hunter, a former Green Beret medic, a man who’s been saving lives for nearly three decades, and a pro when it comes to everything first aid. With his recommendations and tips, you’ll be hunting confidently in no time!

Everyday Carry

This is the trauma kit Billy carries whenever he’s backcountry hunting. It has the core essentials that will save your life in an emergency while still being small and light. The EDC also easily attaches to your belt, pack, or bino harness, so there’s no reason not to bring it along!

Sidekick

The Sidekick first aid kit is another small kit that’s easy to toss in your pack without adding much bulk or weight. The Sidekick Pro is a nice addition to your hunting setup because it not only contains life-saving gear, it also has the supplies to treat minor injuries.

A MyFAK Line Kit

Whether you choose the MyFAK Mini, MyFAK, or MyFAK Large doesn’t matter. All of these kits are an awesome addition to your basecamp or vehicle. Each one is very comprehensive while also including survival items that may come in handy, such as a whistle, paracord, space blanket, and glowstick.

Adventure Tips

Always keep basic trauma supplies on your person just in case of an emergency. Also, be sure to tell someone where you’re going and what time you expect to be back ahead of time so they can send help if something happens and you’re not able to contact emergency services yourself. You should also know the area, what wildlife you may encounter, and what the weather will be ahead of time so you can prepare accordingly. Be on the lookout for other hunters and be sure to wear orange so that they can also see you.

    My Medic replied:
Hey Richard! The EDC is also called the Everyday Carry first aid kit. It contains chest seals, gloves, tourniquet, emergency pressure bandage, QuikClot, permanent marker, and an insert card to download the Stay Alive Guide.
